1) What is the weight capacity Broda chairs can hold?
The weight capacity of all Broda chairs is a function of the casters.
The 5” casters can each hold up to 220 lbs, and the 6” rear casters each
can hold up to 330 lbs. The total weight is usually based on 3 casters,
in case of uneven terrain. For example, a chair with two 5” casters and
two 6” casters can safely hold at least 770 lbs. on uneven terrain and
can hold up to 1100 lbs. on flat terrain. Broda can build custom chairs
to accommodate bariatric residents as well. See our
bariatric
page |
2) Are Broda chairs funded by Medicaid, Medicare or Private Insurance
in the U.S?
In most instances Broda chairs are not funded by Medicaid or Medicare,
however this does vary among states. They may be funded by insurance.
Many chairs are purchased by the facility, privately or through the
Veterans Affairs (VAMC). Please contact your area rep for further
information on pricing and funding. See our
Sales and
Service page to contact your area rep. |
3) How do I get a Broda chair purchased by the VA for a veteran in
the U.S?
Broda Seating is on contract with the VAMC across the U.S. If you have
veterans in your facility, their seating needs may be provided by your
local VA center.
Contact the Prosthetics Department at your local VAMC and provide the
veteran’s first and last name and the last four digits of their SSN. The
veteran must qualify medically and be registered with the VA. You may
call Broda for further details. |
4) How long does it take to get a chair after I order it?
For standard chairs, it usually takes a minimum of seven business days
in Canada and the US. For custom chairs, and anywhere outside of Canada
and the US, please inquire. |
5) Does Broda offer chair demonstrations and trials?
Yes. Broda does offer free, no obligation chair demonstrations and
evaluations in most areas of local representation. If you are interested
in a chair demonstration or evaluation, or would like further
information please contact Broda or your local area representative (See
Sales and
Service page for your local rep). |
6) A caster on my chair has a flat spot. Why?
This may occur if the brakes are left applied on the casters, and the
chair is being maneuvered with the brakes on. To avoid this, ensure
brakes are applied only when needed, and released when the chair is to
be maneuvered. If your caster does have a flat spot, it will need to be
replaced. |
7) Can I get parts to fix an older model Broda Chair?
Yes. Parts are available for older model Broda chairs. For items such as
cylinders or casters, we provide a retro-fit kit with the required
parts. Padding is also available for older chair models. There may be
increased lead times for older model padding. For parts inquiries,
please contact Broda’s Customer Service department, or your local area
representative. (See
Sales and
Service page for your local rep). |
8) Who is my area rep?
Broda has local representation in the majority of Canada and the U.S.
See our Sales

contact Broda if there is no listing for your local representative.

10) Does Broda make custom or Bariatric chairs?
Yes. Broda does make custom chairs for Bariatric residents, as well as
other types of custom chairs.
We can customize seat width, depth, height and back height, as well as
other custom changes. See our
Products pages for a listing of custom dimensions that are
available, as well as our

Bariatric
Seating pages for further information on Bariatric and other custom
chairs. |
11) Why is the chair not reclining or tilting when the handle is
pressed or why does the chair seems to slowly slide out of position?
The recline and tilt operations are a function of the gas cylinders on
the chair. If you are experiencing problems with the cylinders, often
the cylinder is not bad, it just needs adjustment. Please contact
Broda’s Customer
Service for assistance or view the
Repair Maintenance Manual. |
